Air France prolongs suspension of flights to Middle-East hubs as regional conflict escalates
Air France confirmed on Monday, 9 March 2026, that it is extending the suspension of several key Middle-East routes because of the continuing US-Israeli war on Iran. Flights to and from Tel Aviv (TLV) and Beirut (BEY) are now cancelled until at least 13 March, while services linking Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle (CDG) with Dubai (DXB) and Riyadh (RUH) remain grounded until 12 March inclusive. Departures originating in Dubai, which require French crews to overnight in the Gulf, are halted an extra day until 13 March.

The decision mirrors action by Lufthansa Group, which on the same day pushed its own Middle-East suspensions out to mid-March or later. For Air France, however, the commercial impact is acute: Dubai is its largest Gulf destination by seat capacity, and Riyadh is critical for oil-and-gas corporate traffic. Tel Aviv has historically been one of the carrier’s most profitable medium-haul routes thanks to strong premium-cabin demand, while Beirut serves the large French-Lebanese business community.

Travel-management companies (TMCs) are scrambling to re-book affected travellers via Doha, Istanbul and European hubs still operating to the region. Capacity on Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and Royal Jordanian has tightened quickly, pushing last-minute business-class fares above €6,000 on some dates. Cargo flows are also hit: Air France KLM Martinair Cargo routinely fills wide-body bellies on the CDG–DXB trunk; forwarders now face three-to-four-day backlogs via alternate gateways.

For travellers suddenly rerouted through unfamiliar hubs, verifying visa or transit-permit requirements can be a headache. VisaHQ’s France portal (https://www.visahq.com/france/) offers an easy way to check rules and obtain any necessary documents online, helping corporations keep trips on schedule and avoid costly boarding denials.

Corporate risk managers should note that the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs still advises against non-essential travel to Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Iran. Under EU Regulation 261/2004, passengers whose flights are cancelled for security reasons are entitled to rerouting or a full refund but not to cash compensation. Employers should therefore budget for longer routings and potentially higher fares through the end of March.

In the medium term, Air France must decide whether to redeploy wide-body capacity to West Africa and North America for the busy Easter period, or hold frames in reserve in case the security picture improves. Either way, network volatility is certain to persist, and companies with exposure to the Gulf region should keep traveller tracking protocols on high alert.
