Finnair Adds One-Off Muscat–Helsinki Service as Doha-Dubai Suspension Extends
With scheduled Doha and Dubai rotations cancelled through at least 29 March, Finnair on 8 March quietly updated its travel-advice portal, offering stranded ticket-holders a single relief flight from Muscat to Helsinki on 10 March. The message—marked “Published 06.03.2026, Updated 09.03.2026”—allows affected passengers on flights AY1961/1962 (Dubai) and AY1981/1982 (Doha) to transfer free of charge, provided they confirm by 18:00 Muscat time on 9 March. Finnair says the Muscat option was developed with the Finnish MFA after Gulf carriers suspended interline partners and rerouting capacity vanished. Seats are being triaged: first to travellers with medical needs or small children, then by original return date. Because the service is outside Finnair’s normal network, amenities are minimal—no special-meal orders, no pet handling, and only hand-luggage guaranteed.

For passengers suddenly faced with new transit points on short notice, VisaHQ can quickly clarify entry or transit visa rules and even lodge online applications on your behalf, sparing precious time at the airport. Travellers can consult the dedicated Finland portal (https://www.visahq.com/finland/) to cross-check Schengen, Gulf and wider itinerary requirements before confirming their seats.

The airline cautions that final go-ahead depends on an EASA Conflict-Zone Information Bulletin review on 9 March; if risk levels remain “orange”, the flight may slip 24 hours. Corporate travel managers should flag that Finnair is also waiving change fees for anyone holding Dubai or Doha tickets dated 28 February–29 March, allowing rebooking within ±14 days or full refunds. However, hotel and ground-transfer costs in the Gulf remain the traveller’s responsibility unless covered by insurance or employer policy. In parallel, Finnair confirms it continues to detour existing Asian services via Saudi Arabian and Turkmen airspace, adding up to 70 minutes per leg and complicating crew-duty planning. This has knock-on effects for long-haul connections at Helsinki Airport, so itineraries involving tight same-day turnarounds should be re-checked.
