Brazil’s UNILA Selects Students for Exchange Semester at University of Hradec Králové
In Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, the Federal University for Latin-American Integration (UNILA) published Service Bulletin No. 41 on 6 March 2026 confirming the final list of undergraduates chosen for its Czech exchange track. Three students secured places—one with a scholarship—for the winter semester 2026/27 at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Hradec Králové (UHK). The programme, run under a bilateral agreement between UNILA and UHK since 2019, grants tuition waivers and provides Czech-language immersion in Hradec’s international campus. Successful candidates must join an online orientation session on 10 March and submit visa paperwork by 30 April to meet Czech consular lead times.

To make that administrative step easier, VisaHQ offers end-to-end assistance with Czech student visas through its dedicated portal (https://www.visahq.com/czech-republic/), walking applicants through document checklists, online forms and appointment bookings while providing real-time status tracking—an efficient way for UNILA nominees to hit the tight 30 April deadline.

Although only a handful of places are available each year, the scheme is strategically significant. Czech universities have been widening their Latin-American footprint to diversify away from traditional Erasmus inflows; Brazil is now the sixth-largest source of non-EU students in Czechia. Conversely, UNILA views Central Europe as a test-bed for its new “Global South–Global North” mobility pillar, which emphasises social-sciences cooperation on migration, sustainable development and digital governance. For Czech employers the exchange track doubles as a soft-landing channel for Portuguese-speaking talent. Alumni surveys show that more than half of past participants stayed in the EU for postgraduate study or intra-company transfers. Companies with Brazilian ties—ranging from automotive supplier AcelorMittal Tubular to IT outsourcer Integromat—already tap the pool for bilingual staff. Visa advisers note that participants will be among the first Latin-American students to use the Czech Republic’s new fully digital residence-permit portal, rolled out nationwide in January 2026. That should cut processing times from six months to roughly 90 days, provided biometric enrolment slots are booked early.
