First Express Entry draw for senior managers invites 250 candidates with CRS 429
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada held its fourteenth Express Entry draw of 2026 on March 5, issuing 250 Invitations to Apply under a brand-new “Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience” category. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 429, the lowest cut-off for a leadership-stream draw to date. (cicnews.com)

The senior-manager category was unveiled in February’s overhaul of Express Entry, which added three occupation-specific groups aimed at aligning immigration selection with chronic skills shortages. Eligible NOC codes cover executives in construction, utilities, services, finance and social services, but only candidates who have at least 12 months of recent Canadian work experience were considered.

For those eager to capitalise on this new pathway, VisaHQ can shoulder much of the administrative burden. Through its dedicated Canada portal (https://www.visahq.com/canada/), the platform guides both employers and applicants through work-permit renewals, document collection and submission, and status tracking—helping you stay compliant and on schedule while you focus on meeting CRS targets.

The carve-out reflects IRCC’s 2026 strategy of prioritising applicants already contributing to the economy. Year-to-date, 39,362 ITAs have been issued, more than 60 percent of them to candidates inside Canada. Employers applaud the targeted approach, arguing that mid-management gaps hamper productivity when large cohorts of temporary workers move on.

For mobility managers, the takeaway is clear: international assignees in senior roles now have a faster lane to permanence if they can accumulate 12 months of in-country experience. Companies should review internal talent pipelines and consider secondments that put high-potential leaders over the one-year threshold before their work permits expire.

The low CRS cut-off also signals that IRCC may continue to use tight, occupation-specific draws to help relieve the backlog of temporary residents seeking permanence – a trend global employers will need to monitor closely.
