Vienna Gears Up to Host 2026 World Border Security Congress
The organisers of the World Border Security Congress confirmed on 6 March that preparations for the 14–16 April summit in Vienna are on track despite the volatile geo-political climate. The annual event will gather senior officials from Frontex, INTERPOL, the European Commission and more than 50 national border agencies to discuss biometric exit-entry systems, counter-smuggling operations and emerging AI tools for traveller verification.

Austria’s Interior Ministry plans to showcase lessons learned from deploying the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) ahead of its full launch on 10 April. Austrian Border Police are currently running live trials at Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck airports, making the conference a timely forum for peer exchange.

For delegates travelling to Vienna who still need to secure the right paperwork, VisaHQ can streamline the Schengen visa application process, arrange courier pickup and provide real-time status alerts—saving valuable preparation time ahead of the congress. A quick eligibility check for Austria’s visas is available at https://www.visahq.com/austria/ along with guidance for multi-entry or expedited requests.

For multinational companies the congress offers insight into how new technologies—facial matching kiosks, automatic watch-list screening and shared API databases—will affect passenger flow, privacy compliance and the on-boarding of third-country assignees. Exhibitors include firms developing mobile enrolment kits that airlines could use during check-in to pre-capture biometrics, potentially speeding up Schengen border formalities.

Trade visitors can register for the main programme and closed-agency workshops; early-bird passes remain available until 25 March. Given heightened interest in crisis-response logistics, panels on evacuation planning and temporary travel bans have been added to the agenda at short notice.
