Leo Express launches Warsaw–Kraków–Prague service, doubling daily cross-border rail capacity
Czech private rail operator Leo Express has inaugurated a new Warsaw–Kraków trunk line that seamlessly continues through Ostrava and Olomouc to Prague, creating the first Polish domestic service that also functions as a high-frequency international business corridor. The first train left Warszawa Wschodnia at 07:21 on Sunday, 1 March 2026, amid a platform ceremony attended by Czech and Polish transport officials and representatives of the Spanish state railway Renfe, a strategic investor in Leo Express.

While the new corridor removes many logistical pain points, passengers still need to ensure their travel documents satisfy both Czech and Polish entry requirements. VisaHQ’s digital concierge service (https://www.visahq.com/czech-republic/) can fast-track visas and residency permits for frequent business travellers, bundling multiple-country applications into one streamlined workflow so executives can step straight on board without administrative delays.

Initially, two daily services will run in each direction, but the company plans to ramp up to four by mid-June. Timetables have been designed around day-return corporate travel: southbound passengers can reach Kraków by mid-morning and Prague late afternoon, while northbound evening services allow Czech executives to hold midday meetings in Kraków and overnight in Warsaw. For multinational firms with operations straddling the Visegrád region, the route offers a three-to-four-hour door-to-door alternative to short-haul flights that are increasingly subject to environmental taxes and capacity constraints. On-board 5G Wi-Fi, seat-side meal delivery and a premium sleeper class further position the train as a productive mobile office. Leo Express claims more than 100,000 tickets were pre-sold before the launch, signalling pent-up demand for reliable rail connectivity that bypasses congested airports. Corporate travel managers will welcome the through-ticketing feature that allows passengers to reserve a single seat from Warsaw to Prague, with automatic delay compensation under EU rail rules. Employers can also reduce their Scope-3 emissions reporting, as Leo Express publishes real-time CO₂-savings data—925 tonnes on opening day alone, according to the operator. The new service slots into the Czech government’s wider push to strengthen rail diplomacy and relieve Prague Václav Havel Airport during runway refurbishment later this year. With further extensions planned to Frankfurt Airport and Bratislava, the carrier is rapidly becoming a strategic partner for businesses seeking sustainable point-to-point mobility across Central Europe.
