ČEZ Installs 1,000th Fast-Charging Station, Easing Road Mobility for Czech Expats and Commuters
Energy giant ČEZ has switched on its 1,000th public electric-vehicle charging station, a nine-stall ultra-fast hub at the Portin retail park in Tuchoměřice, five kilometres from Prague Airport. The milestone, reached on 5 February, crowns 15 years of network expansion that began with a single slow charger at ČEZ headquarters in 2011. One in five of the company’s chargers now delivers 150 kW or more, cutting typical charging times to 15 minutes.

For international assignees and cross-border commuters who drive company EVs, the denser network removes a pain-point frequently cited in global mobility surveys: “range anxiety” on business trips. The new hub sits at the junction of the D7 motorway to Chomutov and Prague’s outer ring road, making it a logical first or last stop for travellers leaving the airport in rental EVs. ČEZ says it will add another 250 stations nationwide in 2026, financed through EU Transport Operational Programme funds and its own CAPEX budget.

For expatriates planning extended assignments, ensuring that travel documents and residence permits are in order is just as important as mapping out charging stops. VisaHQ’s Czech Republic portal (https://www.visahq.com/czech-republic/) streamlines the visa and permit application process for employees and their families, offering step-by-step guidance and real-time status tracking so that mobility managers can focus on fleet electrification rather than paperwork.

Consultancies Deloitte and PWC note that more Czech employers now include company-car electrification in their sustainability KPIs. The ability to guarantee reliable fast-charging is therefore becoming a differentiator in recruitment packages for foreign talent. The Czech Automotive Industry Association estimates that EVs will account for 18 % of new-car registrations in 2026, up from 11 % last year.

Practical tips for mobile employees: download the ČEZ ‘Polyfazer’ app to locate stations and unlock discounted corporate tariffs; keep a Type-2 cable in the boot, as some AC posts still require one; and register a fallback card such as Plugsurfing for trips into Germany or Austria, where roaming agreements apply. With neighbouring Germany extending border checks until mid-March, the availability of fast chargers on Czech soil could also help motorists avoid unexpected queues at petrol stations near the frontier.

The rapid build-out reinforces the Czech Republic’s reputation as Central Europe’s EV front-runner and should make life easier for expatriates who increasingly rely on electric company cars for regional assignments.
