Snow cleanup continues: Toronto Pearson cancels 80 flights and delays 135 on 30 January
Severe winter weather is still rippling through Canada’s aviation network. On 30 January, Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) logged 80 cancellations and 135 delays, according to operational statistics compiled by Travel and Tour World. More than half of the cancellations involved transborder routes to the United States, compounding knock-on effects for international connections.

Air Canada and its regional affiliate Jazz bore the brunt—together accounting for 72 disrupted departures—followed by Air Canada Rouge and WestJet. Secondary delays spread to Vancouver, Boston, New York-LaGuardia and Orlando as crews and equipment rotated out of sequence.

The latest wave of cancellations comes after Toronto recorded its largest single-day snowfall on 25 January, forcing the airport to activate its major snow-response plan. Although runways are now clear, high snowbanks and ongoing de-icing operations are constraining taxi times and gate availability. Airport authorities say full schedule normalisation may take several more days.

If the shifting flight schedules force travellers to adjust visa start dates or obtain new documentation, VisaHQ can cut through the red tape. The online platform (https://www.visahq.com/canada/) streamlines Canadian and international visa and eTA applications, helping passengers, corporate travel managers and relocating employees keep paperwork current even when itineraries keep changing.

For corporate travel managers, the message is to build extra slack into itineraries and monitor carrier re-booking policies, many of which still allow fee-free changes for affected flights. Travellers connecting onward to Europe or Asia should verify minimum-connection-time waivers, while employers relocating staff are advised to secure flexible accommodation.

Pearson’s performance is being watched closely by other Canadian hubs—Montreal and Vancouver reported smaller-scale disruptions—and by U.S. carriers that rely on Toronto for code-share traffic. Meteorologists forecast milder temperatures later in the week, offering some relief for ground-handling teams.
VisaHQ's expert visas and immigration team helps individuals and companies navigate global travel, work, and residency requirements. We handle document preparation, application filings, government agencies coordination, every aspect necessary to ensure fast, compliant, and stress-free approvals.
