Viracopos Airport to Court Airlines at FITUR 2026 as Brazil Seeks New Routes

Viracopos Airport to Court Airlines at FITUR 2026 as Brazil Seeks New Routes
São Paulo-Campinas/Viracopos International Airport (VCP) has confirmed it will send a senior commercial delegation to FITUR 2026 in Madrid from 21–25 January. Airline Business Manager Sérgio Joau will hold more than 30 pre-scheduled meetings with carriers, tourism boards and travel-technology suppliers to pitch Viracopos as Brazil’s fastest-growing secondary hub.

The timing is strategic. Viracopos handled a record 13 million passengers in 2025—almost double its pre-pandemic volume—thanks largely to a surge in belly-cargo routes and Azul’s continued hub expansion. Yet the airport still has ample runway and terminal capacity in peak international banks, a selling‐point for European, North American and Middle-Eastern airlines wary of slot scarcity at São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU) and Rio/Galeão (GIG).

Travel planners eager to take advantage of any forthcoming routes can streamline their paperwork well in advance: VisaHQ’s online platform quickly clarifies entry requirements and processes Brazilian visas for both business and leisure travellers, ensuring a hassle-free connection through Viracopos. Viracopos plans to highlight a catchment area of 30 million people within a two-hour drive, favourable incentive packages (fee reductions of up to 75 % for new intercontinental routes) and dual-customs corridors that can clear passengers and airfreight simultaneously—an efficiency prized by time-critical industries such as pharma and high-tech.

For mobility managers, more long-haul service into Campinas would shorten ground-transfer times to Brazil’s main automotive and agribusiness clusters clustered along the Anhanguera/Bandeirantes corridor, cutting door-to-door travel time for assignees bound for interior São Paulo by up to three hours compared with GRU. It also offers redundancy for corporate shuttles during GRU maintenance closures forecast for Q3 2026.

Airport operator Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos says its FITUR agenda dovetails with a broader push by Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism to lure at least three new intercontinental carriers before the 2026-27 high season. Any resulting service announcements are likely to emerge during Routes Americas in Rio this March.
