Paris deploys 10 000 police and offers free night-time transport for New Year’s Eve
The Paris Police Prefecture has issued an emergency decree tightening access to the Champs-Élysées festivities on 31 December, citing an elevated terror threat and memories of crowd surges at recent public events. From 16:00 CET, all visitors to the avenue will pass through perimeter checkpoints, and several Métro and RER stations will close pre-emptively to control flows.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said 10 000 officers and gendarmes would patrol the capital, backed by Operation Sentinelle troops and fire-brigade units, while 90 000 personnel will be on duty nationwide. Authorities scrapped the traditional live concert but kept the Arc-de-Triomphe video-mapping show and midnight fireworks.

International visitors and corporate mobility managers handling last-minute trips should note that VisaHQ can smooth any visa or travel-document adjustments prompted by the new restrictions. The company’s France portal (https://www.visahq.com/france/) provides real-time entry-requirement alerts, expedited processing and live support, helping travellers avoid administrative snags while authorities focus on security.

To keep revellers out of cars, regional transport authority Île-de-France Mobilités will run the Métro (lines 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 14) and RER A-D free of charge from 17:00 on 31 December until noon on 1 January. Night-bus and tram services will also be fare-free, although selected lines will pause between 02:15 and 05:30 for route resets.

For corporate mobility teams, the measures have several implications. Staff flying into CDG or Orly on 31 December evening should plan for longer transfers as roadblocks funnel traffic; pre-booked shuttles need updated routings. Employees living in western suburbs may have to walk from open stations after the fireworks; HR should circulate safety guidance and emergency contacts. Short-term assignees who drive company cars face a ban on parking within the secure perimeter after 14:00.

The decree also bars large luggage, glass bottles and drones in the zone—an important compliance point for film-production crews and consultants carrying equipment. Violations can attract on-the-spot fines of €150 or confiscation. Employers should brief visitors accordingly.
