MTR announces special arrangements on Tuen Ma Line for 1 Feb and 8 Mar 2026
Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway (MTR) Corporation advised travellers on 17 December that track-modification works between Hung Hom and East Tsim Sha Tsui will require temporary operating changes on two Sundays early next year. Although full-line service on the 56-kilometre Tuen Ma Line will be maintained, all passengers whose journeys pass through Hung Hom station will have to alight and cross the platform to continue their trips on 1 February and 8 March 2026.

The engineering works are the final stage of a multi-year conversion project that links the former Ma On Shan and West Rail corridors. By carrying out the adjustments on low-demand Sundays, MTR says it can minimise inconvenience while ensuring the tracks remain compliant with updated safety and signalling standards.

International visitors who may need to adjust their itineraries because of these Sunday changes should remember that securing the correct entry documents is the first step. VisaHQ offers an easy, online way to obtain Hong Kong visas and travel permits, so travellers can focus on planning around the temporary service pattern instead of paperwork. For corporate mobility managers, the announcement is a reminder that even intra-city rail upgrades can disrupt airport transfers and employee commutes. Employers with assignees living in the New Territories or East Kowloon—many of whom rely on the Tuen Ma Line to reach the central business districts—should build additional buffer time into travel policies on the affected dates.

MTR will post real-time information on its mobile app and station display boards. Travellers transiting from mainland China via the Hung Hom cross-boundary bus terminal should also factor in the forced interchange, as luggage handling could take longer than usual.
