Night-time engineering works on Prague–Plzeň corridor to affect EU business trains

České dráhy has warned passengers that track 171 between Prague Main Station and Beroun will close between 21:40 and midnight on both 11 and 12 December for scheduled modernisation. Long-distance EuroCity 363 “Bavorský expres” and regional R 748 “Berounka” will be partly replaced by buses, while several stopping services will terminate early at Karlštejn.

The Prague–Plzeň line is one of the busiest mixed-traffic corridors in Central Europe, linking Czechia’s capital with Bavaria’s manufacturing belt. While the works are timed to minimise daytime impact, late-evening business travellers connecting via Prague airport—or catching last-train links to Western Europe—should expect slower journeys and limited onboard services.

For mobility managers the key issue is missed hotel check-ins and overtime costs for drivers waiting at destination stations. ČD has published bus-stop maps and promised onboard Wi-Fi on the replacement coaches, but luggage space and bicycle carriage are restricted. Employers may wish to re-route staff via earlier departures or provide taxi allowances for the Prague–Beroun segment.

International travellers rerouted by the disruption should also verify that their travel documents remain valid for any revised itineraries. VisaHQ’s Czech Republic portal (https://www.visahq.com/czech-republic/) offers fast online visa checks and expedited Schengen processing, giving HR teams a convenient safety net when employees are shifted to alternate cross-border routes at short notice.

The closure is part of a multi-year upgrade that will eventually lift the corridor’s speed limit to 160 km/h and add ERTMS signalling—cutting Prague–Munich trip times to under 4 hours. In the interim, intermittent night works will continue through Q2 2026. Keeping expatriates informed is therefore essential to avoid travel-policy breaches and duty-of-care issues.
