HKIA Hosts Youth Career Day, Offers 1,500 New Jobs Ahead of Terminal 2 Re-Opening

HKIA Hosts Youth Career Day, Offers 1,500 New Jobs Ahead of Terminal 2 Re-Opening
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) kicked off its two-day ‘Airport Youth Career Day 2025’ today, opening the doors of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to job-seekers at a time when passenger traffic is climbing back to pre-pandemic levels. More than 20 airport-community employers—from ground-handling agents and maintenance firms to logistics and security contractors—set up booths to fill 1,500 vacancies. The recruitment drive is designed to meet staffing needs created by the phased reopening of Terminal 2 next year and the full commissioning of the three-runway system.

According to AAHK, flight movements have been growing at double-digit monthly rates since the third runway entered service in 2024. Terminal 2’s departure facilities will come online in 2026, adding 40 million passengers of annual capacity. To support that growth, fresh talent is needed in ground services, aircraft engineering, cargo handling and customer experience—a boon for recent graduates and mid-career switchers seeking stable aviation roles.

Beyond conventional job fairs, this year’s event showcases an AI-powered career portal that analyses CVs and offers interview tips, reflecting the airport’s broader push toward digitalisation and smart operations. Attendees can also sit for on-site interviews, potentially receiving conditional offers within the same day—speeding time-to-hire for employers racing against regional rivals such as Singapore Changi and Seoul Incheon.

For global-mobility teams managing assignees into Hong Kong, the recruitment surge signals looser labour bottlenecks that have constrained ramp handling and immigration queues in recent months. Faster staffing should translate into smoother aircraft turnaround times and greater schedule reliability, reducing travel-disruption costs for corporates. Relocation specialists may also find it easier to source family-member employment for dual-career moves, particularly in technical disciplines like avionics and air-cargo management.

AAHK’s emphasis on youth engagement dovetails with government measures—including the Labour Importation Scheme for the Aviation Industry—to restore Hong Kong’s hub status. Employers are reminded, however, that foreign hires still require employment visas; lead times can be shortened by using the Immigration Department’s e-Visa platform, but early planning remains crucial as hiring accelerates.
