Low-cost carrier Flydubai shook up the Dubai Airshow on 18 November with a Memorandum of Understanding for 150 Airbus A321neo aircraft—its first order outside the Boeing family and the largest single purchase in the airline’s history. Valued at roughly US$24 billion (Dh 88 billion) at list prices, the deal includes options for 100 additional jets, with deliveries scheduled from 2031.
Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum signed the agreement alongside Airbus Commercial Aircraft CEO Christian Scherer, noting that the A321neo’s range and seating density fit Flydubai’s plan to double its network to 250 destinations over the next decade. The move also dovetails with Dubai’s D33 economic programme and plans for a five-runway super-hub at Dubai World Central, where Flydubai will co-locate with Emirates.
