Foreign Resident Population in Czechia Tops 1.1 Million – New Ministry Data Signal Growing Demand for Mobility Services
The Czech Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that the number of foreign nationals legally residing in the country climbed to 1,107,403 as of 30 September 2025. The latest quarterly migration report, released on Friday, November 15, underscores the Czech Republic’s transformation from a transit economy into a magnet for long-term talent and labour.

More than half of all foreign residents (593,922) hold Ukrainian citizenship, reflecting the continued arrival—and gradual settlement—of people fleeing Russia’s invasion. Slovaks remain the second-largest group (124,470), followed by Vietnamese (69,413) and Russians (37,631). Overall, third-country nationals now account for 79 percent of the foreign population, while EU/EEA/Swiss citizens represent just 21 percent.

Geographically, Prague continues to dominate, hosting nearly one-third (32.5 percent) of all foreigners. Central Bohemia claims another 14.5 percent, creating a dense labour market corridor around the capital. At the other end of the spectrum, Zlín Region reports the lowest share, at just 2.4 percent of local residents.

For employers, the data confirm that competition for talent will intensify. As sectors from automotive to IT expand production, staff-short companies are leaning more heavily on work-permit programmes such as “Qualified Worker” and the recently expanded “Digital Nomad” visa. Mobility managers should expect longer lead times for labour-office confirmations and apartment rentals, particularly in Prague and surrounding districts.

Practical implications include higher demand for Czech-language training, school places and healthcare capacity in urban centres. Companies relocating staff should budget for rising accommodation costs and factor in the October 2025 Employment Act amendment, which obliges firms to register foreign workers one day before they start. Meanwhile, policymakers face the challenge of integrating almost 10 percent of the total population while safeguarding social cohesion.
