Air Canada activates free-rebook policy ahead of nationwide Belgian transport strike

Air Canada activates free-rebook policy ahead of nationwide Belgian transport strike
Canadian flag-carrier Air Canada has issued a rare pre-emptive travel waiver for customers ticketed to, from or through Brussels between November 25–26, 2025, as Belgian trade unions prepare a nationwide 72-hour strike that threatens to cripple public transport and disrupt Brussels Airport operations.

Under the goodwill policy, travellers who booked on or before November 11 may change their flights to alternate dates between November 24 and December 3 without incurring change fees or fare differences, provided the same cabin class is available. The waiver also covers itineraries operated by Star Alliance partners United Airlines and Lufthansa Group. Passengers holding Air Canada Vacations packages must contact the tour operator directly.

The strike is expected to impact rail, metro and bus services across Belgium, raising concerns about crew positioning and ground-handling staffing at Brussels Airport (BRU). By acting nearly two weeks in advance, Air Canada is giving corporate travel managers time to reroute employees or adjust meeting schedules, minimising duty-of-care exposure and potential trip disruption costs.

Global mobility teams with expatriates transiting through BRU should communicate the waiver window and encourage affected staff to rebook early while seat inventory remains. Travellers unable to adjust dates can request refunds under Air Canada’s standard irregular-operations policy once flights are formally cancelled.
