Brazil’s civil-aviation regulator ANAC on 10 November authorised LATAM Ecuador to operate scheduled passenger and cargo services to Brazilian airports, expanding the carrier’s fifth-freedom footprint. The decision, published in the Diário Oficial, follows a technical review of safety oversight by Ecuador’s DGAC and paves the way for new Quito–São Paulo and Guayaquil–Manaus rotations starting in December.
The approval comes amid surging demand: ANAC reports that 22 million international passengers used Brazilian airports between January and October, up 17 % on 2023. Additional frequencies by LATAM Ecuador are expected to add 120,000 seats a year and intensify competition on the Andean–Brazil corridor, traditionally dominated by Avianca and GOL code-shares.
For mobility managers, the new flights create more one-stop options between northern Brazil and the U.S. West Coast via Quito, potentially trimming door-to-door journey times for energy-sector personnel heading to the Amazon basin. Cargo shippers stand to benefit too, with fresh capacity for perishables and e-commerce parcels.
The bilateral aviation agreement allows up to seven weekly frequencies per carrier, and industry observers expect LATAM Ecuador to deploy Airbus A320neos initially, adding wide-bodies if demand holds. Ticket sales opened today on the LATAM website, with promotional fares starting at US$ 279 round-trip.
