Lufthansa Inaugurates Riyadh–Munich Nonstop, Strengthening Gulf-Germany Corridor
Germany’s flag-carrier Lufthansa officially inaugurated its reinstated Riyadh–Munich nonstop service on 27 October 2025, three years after first announcing the route. Operated by a 293-seat Airbus A350-900, flight LH641 departs King Khalid International Airport at 06:25 and arrives in Munich at 10:25, with return service LH640 leaving Bavaria at 21:45.

The thrice-weekly link boosts Lufthansa’s capacity in Saudi Arabia by roughly 50 percent and complements the airline’s daily Riyadh–Frankfurt flight. Munich Airport, branded a “Five-Star” hub by Skytrax, gains new feed for its expanding North America and Central/Eastern Europe bank, offering Gulf-based corporates smoother one-stop access to markets such as Budapest, Prague and Warsaw.

For Germany, the route aligns with the federal government’s efforts to attract highly skilled engineers and IT specialists from Saudi Arabia under the reformed Skilled Immigration Act. Passengers holding German national D-visas can now route their entry formalities through Munich’s newly upgraded EES checkpoints in Terminal 2 instead of Frankfurt, reducing transit times.

Trade bodies in Bavaria welcomed the move, pointing to rising bilateral investment in green hydrogen and automotive supply-chain projects. Lufthansa meanwhile sees strong premium demand tied to the 2030 Asian Games construction boom in Riyadh and plans to up-gauge to a 319-seat layout if load-factors exceed 85 percent during Q1 2026.

Travel buyers should update travel-policy city-pair agreements, noting introductory Business-Saver fares currently undercut Frankfurt by 12 percent. Companies relocating staff between Germany and the Gulf should also brief assignees on local health-insurance requirements, which differ between Bavaria and Hesse.
