• There are strict rules on goods brought into Iraq. Declare to customs anything that may be prohibited or subject to duty or tax.

Currency

• On arrival you must declare Iraqi dinars over IQD 200,000, and cash or items worth over USD 10,000 (or the equivalent in other currencies).
• Customs officers may ask any traveler to declare all cash, currency and bearer negotiable instruments they carry, with their value. Cash that is not declared or is declared falsely may be seized.

Prohibited

• Illegal drugs: drug trafficking can carry the death penalty.
• Alcoholic drinks: Iraqi law bans their import, manufacture and sale, with fines of up to IQD 25 million.

Restricted

• Weapons: travelers carrying weapons need a Weapon Authority Card (WAC). Foreign nationals have been arrested for not showing the correct documents.
• Dogs and cats need a veterinary health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days before travel, confirming that the animal is free of infectious or contagious diseases and giving its rabies vaccination details.
