Traveling To Canada From Italy
Traveling to Canada from Italy at short notice is far easier than ever before. Unlike citizens of many other countries, Italians do not need a visa unless they plan to stay in Canada for an extended period. You need to visit the Canadian embassy in Rome to apply for a visa for extended stays, but for short stays, you do not.
As of the time of writing, a significant population of Italian visitors travels to Canada, and many of them apply for visa waivers; one of such waivers is the electronic travel authorization permit ETA
Canada ETA For Italians
Italian citizens can apply for an ETA because Italy is an eligible country and was told by one of the launch members of the program. The Canadian government launched the electronic travel authorization to facilitate trips for foreign nationals who wish to enter Canada and stay for a short time.
ETA grants the holder multiple entries into the country and allows a prolonged stay of 180 days per visit. Furthermore, the permit is valid for 5 years and only expires after the five years, or at the expiration of the passport it is linked to, or whichever comes first.
Italian citizens can apply for Canada ETA by completing an online application form with their smartphones. The process takes less than 20 minutes, and only a few documents are required, unlike the complex requirement for applying for a conventional visa.
ETA grants the holder multiple entries into the country and allows a prolonged stay of 180 days per visit. Furthermore, the permit is valid for 5 years and only expires after the five year period, or at the expiration of the passport it is linked to, or whichever comes first.
Also of importance to note is that ETA is only for air travel and not for sea or land travel. If you intend to enter Canada by sea or through the Southern US border, you should opt for a normal visa or any other travel document, not ETA.
You can travel to Canada with an ETA for the following purposes.
Italians who have family members in Canada may apply for eta to visit them at any time of the year. This document is also used for tourism purposes too. Visiting Canada to enjoy its side attraction is a top choice for Italians who want to experience the cultural civilizations of North America.
Italian citizens with business interests in Canada can travel with an electronic travel authorization permit. Meetings, workshops, seminars, and all business-related activities can be attended.
Patients requiring medical treatment or consultations can also apply for ETA to grant them access into the country.
Italians traveling to other countries can make temporary stops at any Canadian airport en route to their destinations.
For Air Travel Only
This travel document is only for air trips to Canada and not for land or Sea trips. Visitors who arrive at any Canadian seaport or land border bearing only a Canadian ETA will be denied entry into the country.
A valid passport is required to complete the application. Italian passport holders must have at least 6 months before it expires and contain a minimum of two blank pages.
An email address is required; approved Etas are forwarded to the applicant's email address, so it's necessary only to provide a valid email address to which the applicant has access.
Debit or Credit Card
A debit or credit card with sufficient funds is required to pay the application fee online, without which the form cannot be submitted. Be sure about the fee and ensure that the card you use has sufficient balance to cover the fee and transaction charges.
A health certificate is required at the entry point. Covid vaccinated travelers must have received the Covid vaccine at least 14 days before their trips, while those who are free of the virus must have posted a negative test at least 72 hours before the trip.
Not For Minors
Persons who are below 18 years may not apply for an electronic travel authorization. Their guardian or parent should apply for it if they must visit Canada with ETA.
