Brazil Becomes Protecting Power for Mexico in Peru After Diplomatic Fallout
After Mexico-Peru relations collapsed over an asylum dispute, Brazil agreed to serve as protecting power for Mexico in Lima. From 25 January, Brazilian diplomats will manage Mexico’s embassy premises and provide essential consular services to Mexican nationals in Peru. The move ensures continuity for thousands of Mexican business travellers and expatriates and underscores Brazil’s role as a stabilising diplomatic actor in the region.
