Farmers protesting the EU–Mercosur trade deal have blocked access to Brussels Airport’s Brucargo complex since 15 January, allowing trucks through only intermittently. Belgium raises 2026 salary thresholds for work permits and EU Blue Card
From 1 January 2026 Belgium has increased the minimum salaries required for foreign nationals to obtain Highly Qualified, Executive and EU Blue Card permits. In Brussels the monthly thresholds rise to €3,703.44 (highly qualified) and €6,647.20 (executives), while Wallonia sets €53,220 per year for highly skilled staff. Companies must adjust employment contracts and assignment costings immediately to remain compliant.
