Storm Goretti fallout: snowstorm still rippling through Czech business itineraries

Storm Goretti fallout: snowstorm still rippling through Czech business itineraries
Three days after Arctic system ‘Storm Goretti’ dumped up to 15 cm of snow on central Bohemia, corporate travel calendars remain out of sync. A 13 January field report from VisaHQ shows that 17 departures were cancelled outright at Prague Airport during the height of the storm, while dozens more left hours late, disrupting Europe-wide connection banks.

Road transport bore the brunt as jack-knifed trucks closed sections of the D5 and D6 motorways linking Czech suppliers with German manufacturing clusters. Prague diverted multiple tram lines when iced switching points failed, and avalanche warnings in the Krkonoše mountains forced multinational project teams to scrap site visits at short notice.

Airlines issued waiver policies through 11 January, yet re-protected passengers faced limited seat availability in the following days. Czech Railways honoured storm-day tickets on later services, but rolling-stock displacement meant lingering carriage shortages on the Prague–Brno corridor. Mobility advisers now recommend that travellers build three-hour buffers into any itinerary touching PRG for the rest of the week.

In this environment, VisaHQ’s Czech Republic portal (https://www.visahq.com/czech-republic/) can shoulder much of the administrative burden for travel managers. From real-time Schengen day counters to same-day courier pickup for emergency extension packages, the platform lets corporate mobility teams monitor compliance while travellers are still stuck at PRG or rerouting via Vienna.

Visa-sensitive assignees are especially exposed. Those approaching the end of their 90-day Schengen allowance risk inadvertent overstay if re-booked flights fall through again. Employers are urged to inventory upcoming expiries and prepare emergency extension filings; Prague’s Interior Ministry campus is still honouring biometric appointments, but applicants should reconfirm slot status before heading out in winter conditions.
VisaHQ's expert visas and immigration team helps individuals and companies navigate global travel, work, and residency requirements. We handle document preparation, application filings, government agencies coordination, every aspect necessary to ensure fast, compliant, and stress-free approvals.
