Aegean Airlines will reconnect Cyprus directly with Brussels from 1 December, restoring a strategic air link that disappeared during the pandemic. The service launches with three weekly rotations and ramps up to five per week from January through June to support the island’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union (beginning 1 January 2026).
The route is being financed under a Public Service Obligation (PSO) scheme worth €4.7 million after an earlier, lower-budget tender failed to attract bidders. Cyprus’s Department of Civil Aviation argued that guaranteed capacity is essential for officials, lobbyists and multinational executives expected to shuttle between EU institutions and Nicosia during the six-month presidency.
