Porter Airlines drive Canadian traffic boom in Puerto Vallarta

Porter Airlines drive Canadian traffic boom in Puerto Vallarta
Mexico’s Puerto Vallarta International Airport reports record winter growth as Porter Airlines inaugurates direct Toronto flights and adds capacity from other Canadian cities. Airport officials told local outlet Vallarta Daily that Canadian arrivals alone could push annual passenger volume to 6.8 million in 2025, up 14 per cent year-on-year.

Porter’s E195-E2 jets will operate up to five weekly frequencies on the YYZ-PVR route through April, offering free Wi-Fi and no middle seats—a selling point in the competitive sun-destination market. The carrier is also launching connecting itineraries from Ottawa and Montréal via its Toronto hub, challenging Air Canada Rouge and WestJet for market share.

For Canadian employers with “work from anywhere” programmes, the expanded service broadens options for remote-first staff electing temporary residence in Mexico’s Pacific coast tech hub. However, HR teams should remind employees of the 183-day tax-residency threshold and Mexico’s digital-nomad visa requirements.

Travel-risk advisers note that Jalisco state’s security advisory remains at “exercise a high degree of caution”; companies should ensure employees register with the Government of Canada’s ROCA service and maintain local medical coverage.
