Germany scales back welfare payments for new Ukrainian refugees from April 2025
From 1 April 2025, Ukrainians arriving in Germany will receive reduced cash benefits (€441 instead of €563) under the Asylum Seekers’ Benefits Act rather than Bürgergeld. The government hopes lower welfare will push more refugees into work; existing beneficiaries keep the higher rate.
