Kenya e-Visa

Kenya is an extremely popular touristic destination, with more than 2 million tourists visiting the country each year. The traditional Kenya visa process is not available anymore, as the Kenyan government has made all tourist visas electronic since January 2021. Therefore, if you are interested in visiting Kenya, you must apply for a Kenya e-visa.

The process of obtaining an electronic visa for Kenya is relatively easy. You must fill out an application form online, which may take thirty minutes and one hour.

Learn the requirements you will need for your Kenya e-visa and other useful information you will need to obtain your visa online.

What is a Kenya e-Visa?

A Kenya e-visa is a digital document that allows you to enter the Republic of Kenya. By 2021, all tourists interested in visiting Kenya will be required to apply for an e-visa, as the government has decided to make the process online exclusively.

E-visas are highly convenient because you do not have to attend the nearest Kenyan embassy or consulate to obtain your document. You will be able to apply for it from the comfort of your home, allowing you to focus on other of your travel plans, too.

Kenya e-visa requirements

The Kenya e-visa requirements are some of the common travel documents. As mentioned, you will also be required to fill out an online form for your visa application, which consists of a few personal and security questions, such as your full name, nationality, and current marital status, among many others.

You will be required to submit the following requirements to be able to obtain your Kenya visa:

  • Passport: You are required to provide a valid passport in the form of digital copies. You must upload copies of the information and photo pages. Plus, the passport should have at least two blank pages upon your arrival in Kenia.

  • Passport-type photo: Please upload a passport-type photograph in a white background in your application.

  • Proof of accommodation: You can provide digital copies of your hotel reservations or lodging for your tip. Please note that the reservation must have the applicant’s name. You can also provide your travel itinerary.

  • Email: You must provide a valid email address as it will be the primary mean of communication between you and the Kenya visa system.

  • Means of Payment: You must pay the processing fee with a debit or a credit card.

You can apply for a single-entry visa or a multiple-entry visa. While the former has a validity of up to 90 days, the latter is valid for up to one year.

In addition, Kenya requires foreigners who have traveled to high-risk yellow fever countries to provide proof of the yellow fever vaccine. If you haven’t gotten the vaccine, we recommend you to do so as soon as possible. You will receive a yellow fever vaccination certificate afterward.

Please note that children under 16 are not required to apply for a Kenya e-visa.

You can apply for an e-visa online today. The process will take you less than one hour if you already have all the requirements listed above. You can find more information about the process at VisaHQ.

Additional information

Please note that, besides the requirements provided above, the Kenyan government requires you to fill out a Health declaration form within 72 hours before the flight. Once you complete the form, you will be assigned a QR code, which you will have to show to the immigration officer upon your arrival in Kenya.

Who is eligible for a Kenya e-visa?

Kenya has made e-visas mandatory for all travelers interested in visiting Kenya within a 90-day period. You will be able to enter Kenya after you have completed the application form online and have been informed of the approval of your Kenyan visa via email.

The 90-day period visa is a single-entry visa issued via the internet. On the other hand, you can also request a multiple-entry visa, which is valid for up to one year, depending on your needs. The process is similar. The only difference is the price and perhaps a few security questions within the application form.

Whether you are traveling to Kenya for tourism or medical reasons, you are required to apply online for a visa.

Other Kenya visa types

You can request different visas to travel to Kenya. While the e-visa is the “standard” among them all, please note that you can also request an East African Tourist Visa, which allows you to visit Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda for tourism reasons. It can be convenient if you are planning a long vacation and would like to visit as many places as possible.

You may also want to apply for a transit visa if you are only visiting Kenya as part of a connecting flight to another country within your plans.
