China Eastern to launch year-round Sydney–Beijing Daxing service, boosting Australia–China corporate links

China Eastern to launch year-round Sydney–Beijing Daxing service, boosting Australia–China corporate links
China Eastern Airlines confirmed on 18 February that it will inaugurate a new Sydney–Beijing Daxing route on 30 March 2026, providing Australia’s first year-round direct link to the capital’s newest mega-hub. Although the flight will make a same-plane technical stop in Wuhan, passengers retain a single boarding pass and through-checked baggage, eliminating the need for separate domestic legs via Shanghai or Guangzhou.

For multinational companies the announcement is significant. Sydney generates more than 35 percent of Australia’s China-bound corporate-travel demand, according to ForwardKeys, yet capacity has lagged behind leisure routes to Shanghai and Shenzhen. The new four-times-weekly A350-900 service adds 1,200 premium-economy and business-class seats per week—segments most in demand by project engineers, higher-education faculty and government delegations.

The timing also aligns with Beijing’s recent extension of 30-day visa-waiver entry to Australian nationals for tourism and business. Travellers making short onward trips to Tianjin or Hebei’s free-trade zones can therefore clear immigration at Daxing under the waiver, provided their stay does not exceed 30 days.

For those whose travel plans fall outside the waiver—such as longer stays, multi-entry itineraries, or specialist work assignments—VisaHQ can take the administrative headache out of securing the appropriate Chinese visa. Its online platform guides applicants through each step, offers document pre-checks, and provides up-to-date policy alerts; visit https://www.visahq.com/china/ to see how the service can streamline corporate and leisure travel alike.

Mobility managers should note that Daxing Airport now runs a dedicated “FAST Lane” for passengers holding APEC Business Travel Cards and Chinese Talent Visas (Category R). Processing times at this lane averaged six minutes in January tests, compared with 18 minutes at Capital Airport’s T3.

The route also strengthens Wuhan’s position as a secondary transfer hub. Passengers may remain on board during the technical stop, but those entering Wuhan under visa-free-transit rules must hold confirmed onward tickets within 24 hours. Corporate-travel policies should be updated to reflect the nuance.
