Brazil and India agree to 10-year multiple-entry visitor and business visas

Brazil and India agree to 10-year multiple-entry visitor and business visas
Brazilian and Indian negotiators published matching ordinances in their respective official gazettes on the morning of 17 February 2026 extending the validity of each other’s visitor (VIVIS) and business (VITEM II) visas from five to ten years. Under the new rules Brazilian and Indian nationals can apply once and reuse the same multiple-entry visa for a full decade, provided that each stay does not exceed 90 days for tourism or 180 days for business.

The change crowns two years of bilateral talks that began when India unilaterally lengthened visa validity for Brazilians in 2025. Brasília’s reciprocity not only removes an irritant in the relationship but also supports President Lula da Silva’s goal of doubling two-way trade to US $30 billion by 2030. Executives travelling between São Paulo and Bengaluru’s technology corridor told local chambers of commerce that visa renewals were costing companies up to R$4,000 per traveller every 18 months in legal fees and courier costs; those expenses now disappear.

For companies and individual travelers eager to capitalize on the new ten-year validity, VisaHQ can manage the entire application process online—pre-filling forms, scheduling consular appointments and arranging secure passport pick-up and return. Its dedicated Brazil page (https://www.visahq.com/brazil/) offers step-by-step guidance for both Brazilian and Indian nationals, helping mobility teams stay compliant while saving time and administrative costs.

From a compliance perspective nothing changes with respect to permitted activities: paid work in the host country remains prohibited and travellers must still observe country-specific stay limits and registration requirements. However, longer validity dramatically reduces lead-times for project kick-offs, client visits and after-sales support—an increasingly important advantage as Indian firms invest in Brazil’s renewable-energy auctions and Brazilian agri-tech suppliers open offices in Pune and Hyderabad.

Travel managers should update internal mobility policies to reflect the new ten-year validity and brief Indian/Brazilian assignees that existing five-year stickers remain valid until expiry; replacements will be granted under the new ten-year regime at the next application. Forward-looking companies are already aligning global travel insurance, frequent-traveller tracking and document-storage systems to the longer cycle so that renewals are not forgotten a decade from now.
VisaHQ's expert visas and immigration team helps individuals and companies navigate global travel, work, and residency requirements. We handle document preparation, application filings, government agencies coordination, every aspect necessary to ensure fast, compliant, and stress-free approvals.
