China Eastern to Launch Twice-Weekly Beijing–Muscat Service, Deepening Air Corridor with the Gulf

China Eastern to Launch Twice-Weekly Beijing–Muscat Service, Deepening Air Corridor with the Gulf
China Eastern Airlines has confirmed that it will inaugurate a non-stop passenger service between Beijing Daxing International Airport and Muscat, the capital of Oman, on 30 November 2025. Operated with 282-seat Airbus A330 aircraft, flight MU2051 will depart Daxing every Wednesday and Sunday at 14:00 (Beijing) and land in Muscat at 19:55 (local time). The return leg, MU2052, leaves Muscat at 21:55 and arrives in Beijing at 10:00 the following day, enabling same-day onward connections to China’s domestic and North-East Asian networks.

The route is Beijing’s first direct link to Oman and represents China Eastern’s fourth destination in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) after Dubai, Doha and Riyadh. It comes six months after China introduced a one-year, 30-day visa-free trial for ordinary passport holders from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain, which has already boosted inbound traffic from the region by 34 percent, according to National Immigration Administration data.

For corporates, the new flights cut door-to-door journey times between northern China’s manufacturing clusters and Oman’s strategic Duqm and Sohar free zones by at least seven hours, compared with the current one-stop routings via Dubai or Doha. Energy majors PetroChina and Oman LNG, both of which maintain joint-venture teams in Beijing and Muscat, told local media that the direct link will reduce crew-rotation costs and facilitate faster shipment of critical spare parts. China’s Ministry of Commerce also expects the service to stimulate bilateral trade, which surpassed US $32 billion in 2024, particularly in green hydrogen and logistics services.

Travel managers should note that Muscat’s immigration counters now accept China’s digital travel authorisation (DTA) barcode, eliminating the need for manual passport stamping. China Eastern will offer fully-flat business-class seats and a 2 × 23 kg baggage allowance in economy. Introductory round-trip fares start at RMB 3,880 (≈ USD 535) excluding tax, with through-ticketing available to Shanghai, Shenyang and Harbin via Daxing. Cargo capacity—about 15 tonnes per flight—will open up temperature-controlled belly-hold space for high-value pharmaceuticals and e-commerce parcels destined for the GCC.

In the medium term, analysts see the Beijing–Muscat route as a building block for a budding “Silk Road in the Sky”. Both governments are negotiating fifth-freedom rights that could eventually allow China Eastern to extend the service to Athens or Istanbul, creating a one-stop China–Europe option and further diversifying supply-chain and travel choices for multinationals.
