The Myanmar government offers both traditional and electronic visas for business purposes. The e-visa system was launched in 2015 to facilitate the visa application process. Unfortunately, not all foreign nationals are eligible for an e-visa. In that scenario, you'll need to apply for a traditional Myanmar business visa.

Unlike in the past, foreign citizens can now apply for a Myanmar business visa from the comfort of their homes. No need to visit the Myanmar embassy or consulate office. You can partner up with VisaHQ and apply for a business visa online!

Types Of Myanmar Business Visas

Before you apply for a Myanmar business visa, you need to learn all about this travel document. Just like a tourist visa, the business visa is also available in different variations, such as:

Single-Entry Visa

This travel document permits holders to stay in the country for 70 days. It can only be used once in a 90-day period. Afterward, you are required to leave the country or renew your travel documents.

Multiple-Entry Visa

If you need to enter Myanmar multiple times during a 90-day period, you can also apply for a multiple-entry visa. This one also allows you to stay in the country for 70 days. However, with a multiple-entry visa, holders can enter Myanmar whenever they want!

Myanmar Business Visa Requirements

In order to complete the visa application process, applicants are required to provide certain information and proof of documents, also known as the visa requirements. So, check that you have the following important documents prior to applying for a Myanmar business visa:

  • Valid Passport - The most important document that an applicant requires to apply for a business visa is their passport. Make sure your passport has at least 2 blank pages for stamps and 6 months of remaining validity.

  • Photograph - You'll need to provide a digital passport-style photograph with white background. Make sure to use a photo taken within the last 6 months.

  • E-mail Address - Your email address will be electronically linked to your passport. Upon approval, you'll get your travel documents via email.

  • Proof of Status - A copy of your immigration status, such as a study or work permit or a resident card.

  • Itinerary - A detailed itinerary or a copy of your return ticket.

  • Proof of Accommodation - A copy of your hotel reservation or any other lodgings with your name clearly mentioned on them.

  • Business Support Letter - A copy of the business letter issued by the sending company. The support letter must include the applicant's introduction, the nature of the trip as well as the desired validity of the visa.

  • Business Invitation Letter - A copy of the invitation letter from the inviting company located in Myanmar, addressed to the "consulate of Myanmar, visa section."

Myanmar has different visa policies for different nationality holders. So, you might need some additional documents depending on your citizenship. Therefore, it's recommended to visit VisaHQ prior to applying to avoid any complications.

How To Apply For A Myanmar Business Visa?

Before 2015, applicants were required to visit the Myanmar embassy or consulate to apply for a traditional visa. You had to submit your visa application form in person and schedule an appointment for your visa interview. However, the Myanmar ministry of foreign affairs has now made the visa application process simple and convenient.

Currently, business travelers can apply for a Myanmar business visa online by partnering up with VisaHQ. All you need to follow 3 simple steps to get your travel documents, including:

  1. Fill Out the Myanmar Visa Application Form - The first step is to fill out your application form by providing personal, contact, travel, and passport details.

  2. Pay The Visa Fee - Next, you'll need to pay the visa processing fee. To do so, you can use online means of payment, such as a debit card, credit card, or PayPal account.

  3. Submit Your Application - Lastly, you'll need to submit your application with supporting documents.

If you are eligible for a Myanmar e-visa, you don’t need to visit the embassy. Otherwise, you might have to schedule a visa interview to get your travel documents.

Processing Time

Whether you are applying for a single-entry visa or a multiple-entry travel document, the average processing time for a Myanmar visa is 7 business days. However, due to high demand and secondary checks, you might need to wait a little longer.

In addition, if there are errors or mistakes in your visa application form, your travel document will more likely be delayed. Therefore, it's recommended to apply for a Myanmar visa at least 2 weeks prior to the intended date of entry!

Keep in mind that a visa does not guarantee your entry to the country. The final decision will be made by the immigration officials. So, make sure you are fulfilling all the entry requirements while visiting Myanmar!

Myanmar Visa Policy

According to the official visa policy position of the Myanmar government, any foreigner who wishes to enter the country must get a visa first unless they are from one of the countries on the visa-exempt list. All visitors are also expected to hold valid passports that will not expire for at least the next 6 months.

Among the list of countries on this list are Singaporean nationals whose citizens can visit Myanmar and stay for up to 30 days without visas, and they can enter and exit the country through any port of entry.

The visa policy of Myanmar is always changing as new bilateral and multilateral agreements are struck with other countries.  That is why visitors are advised to consult the current list to know if they qualify for visa free entry or not.

It is also important to note also that visa exemptions are only for visitors coming for tourism, transit or business.  Those seeking employment in Myanmar or looking to school in the country will have to apply to the Myanmar foreign mission for an appropriate visa.

Persons who hold diplomatic passports from the approved countries don't require visas to enter Myanmar if they are staying for 90 days or 30 days.

Restricted Visa-Free Access

There is a restricted visa-free policy for nationals from selected countries who may wish to visit for business or tourism, but unlike Singaporeans who may enter and leave through any route, these visitors are only allowed to do so through Nay Pyi Taw International Airport or Yangon International Airport.

Foreigners who are eligible for restricted visa free access may stay in Myanmar for 30 days or 14 days.  Also, some nationals from eligible countries may only activate the access by arriving by air.

Other foreign nationals include persons from Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and Japan who can enter and exit through any entry port.

Myanmar e Visa

The government of Myanmar launched a comprehensive electronic visa policy in 2015 for business, tourism, and transit. This online visa is processed speedily and used within 3 working days after the application is received and allows the holder to stay for 28 days as a tourist and 70 days as a business visitor with a letter of invitation. Transit visitors are only allowed to stay for 1-4 days maximum. While adult visitors must pay an application fee, children are exempted from such fees.

So far, the list of eligible countries has been expanded twice, and they must enter Myanmar through Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, or Mandalay International Airports or the Tachileik border or Kawthuang border crossing with Thailand.

Applicants for electronic visas must meet the following conditions

  • They must be citizens of eligible countries
  • They must hold valid ordinary passports
  • They must have sufficient funds to cover their expenses
  • They must old return or onward flight tickets for their exit

Key Information About Myanmar e Visa

Please print out the e-visa: Once the e-visa is forwarded to your email after your application has been approved, make sure you print it out. Travel with the copy to Myanmar as evidence to the officers at the arrival point and carry it wherever you go, just in case law enforcement officers question your motives.

Use the same passport: Your e-visa is linked to your passport, so you must travel with the same passport, not a different one. If your passport expires sooner than required, apply to your government for a new one before applying for an e-visa. If you travel with a different passport, you will be denied entry into Myanmar.

Leave before your visa expires: Be mindful of your visa's expiry date and leave before it expires. The tourist e-visa is valid for 28 days, and the business visa is valid for 70 days after your entry. Transit visitors must stay 3-4 days in Myanmar before they leave. Staying in Myanmar on an expired visa will attract sanctions, and the longer you stay, the worse the sanctions will become.

Don't engage in any employment: The e-visa program is not for immigrant workers and should not be converted into a work visa. This document is only for short-term non-commercial visitors to the South East Asian country. Those looking to work should apply for a work visa to the Myanmar foreign mission.

Respect local laws: You must respect the local laws and customs of the country during your stay. Myanmar is one of Asia's most culturally sensitive countries, and locals may feel insulted by alien acts and practices. Be self-aware of your actions, especially in public places.

Use Approved Routes: There are dozens of routes into Myanmar, but only a few of them are open for entry to e-visa holders. Always use approved airports and border routes for your entry. Also note they your nationality may determine the routes open to you. For instance, while Singaporeans are free to enter and exit the country through any route, other nationals are limited to a few designated routes.  Ahead of trip, plot your itinerary carefully.

Proof of Funds Documents: One of documents you will be asked to provide at the airport will be a proof of fund document if you don't have physical cash at hand. A stamped bank statement for the last 3-6 months containing sufficient balance to cover your expenses will be accepted. A credit card issue by a reputable International financial institution will also be accepted.  The minimum daily amount for expenses is ever changing in light of exchange rates and the economic situation so check the current minimum daily amount for visitors before the trip to be sure of how much you will need.

Vaccination: If you will travel to some interior regions in the country, you should get medical advice regarding safety precautions. Although Myanmar doesn't have a Vaccination mandate in force, all that may change if there's a health risk.  Ask your doctor if you will need yellow fever vaccination or any other vaccinations to protect you from potential health risks.
