Visa Policy of Malaysia
The Malaysian visa policy is a set of rules and regulations that determines the requirements and eligibility criteria for foreigners who apply for visas. The policy dictates who is eligible for what visa and how long they can stay in the country. The main source of the visa policy is based on the Immigration Act 1959/63, which addresses all issues with visa eligibility, employment permits, illegal entries, etc.
According to the Immigration Act, all foreign nationals traveling to Malaysia must get a visa or entry permit before being allowed into the country. Visitors from visa-free countries can enter and stay for different days depending on their nationality, and these visitors are allowed to stay for 14, 30, and 90 days, respectively. Those not from visa-free countries must obtain a visa from the Malaysian embassy in their countries before they can enter Malaysia as legal visitors. The policy also mandates all visitors from visa-free and non-visa-free countries to hold passports with a minimum of 6 months' validity.
Malaysian visas can either be issued through a consulate/embassy through an online medium or in person. Visitors from some visa-free countries can travel to Malaysia and get visas on arrival, while others can apply for an e-visa online for short stays. Visitors who are not from visa-free countries or those from visa-free countries who wish to stay for more than 90 days in Malaysia must apply for a normal visa from the embassy.
Currently, there are 70 countries on the visa-free list whose citizens can visit Malaysia for 14-90 days for tourism, medical care, transit, or business. There is also a special online Malaysian eNTRI visa for selected countries.
If you wish to apply for an e-visa, you need to ascertain your eligibility before submitting your application.
