Zurich Airport posts strongest flight volume since pre-pandemic era

Zurich Airport posts strongest flight volume since pre-pandemic era
New statistics released on 3 November 2025 show Zurich Airport handled 24,479 take-offs and landings in October—6.6 percent more than the same month last year and 3.6 percent above October 2019, the last comparable month before COVID-19. The figures, compiled by news agency AWP and reported by Nau.ch and Blick, confirm that Switzerland’s main hub has not only recovered but surpassed pre-crisis activity.

The rebound is driven by robust corporate demand in pharmaceuticals, finance and advanced manufacturing, sectors that rely on short-notice European hops and long-haul links to the United States and Asia. Leisure traffic during Switzerland’s autumn school holidays also filled seats, yet analysts note that load factors remain healthy, indicating airlines are managing capacity prudently rather than flooding the market.

For mobility managers, the uptick means better flight availability but also a return of peak-season congestion. Border authorities are racing to install the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) kiosks before 17 November; longer queues are expected for third-country nationals during the transition. Companies are advised to schedule extra time for arriving assignees and to remind travellers to have biometric passports ready.

Zurich Airport AG’s share price rose 1.3 percent on the SIX Swiss Exchange after the numbers were published, reflecting investor confidence that passenger growth will feed into commercial revenues and infrastructure expansion plans such as Dock A’s refurbishment.

Looking ahead, the airport will publish detailed passenger data on 12 November and issue its next traffic outlook in early 2026. Policy makers see the figures as a bell-wether for Switzerland’s broader export economy, which depends on reliable air links for both people and high-value cargo.
