India’s Fast-Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) quietly reached another milestone on 1 November 2025 with Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow, activating its first set of automated e-Gates.

The Bureau of Immigration confirmed that more than 2,500 domestic passport holders and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card-holders used the facility on day one, clocking an average clearance time of 34 seconds—down from the 6-minute manual-counter average during Diwali week last year.

The Lucknow launch is part of Phase 2, which targets secondary cities after the programme’s 2024 debut in Delhi and Mumbai. Four additional airports—Thiruvananthapuram, Amritsar, Trichy and Calicut—are slated to go live before the New Year, bringing coverage to 17 airports and 80 % of India’s international throughput.

Enrolment process: travellers apply on the ftittp.mha.gov.in portal, await background-check clearance, and then complete biometrics at FRRO centres or during the first airport passage. Membership is valid for five years or until passport expiry, whichever is earlier. The programme remains fee-free, contrasting with paid “fast lane” schemes in Singapore and the UAE.

For HR mobility teams, FTI-TTP can shave valuable time off project-critical travel. Companies should circulate internal FAQs and encourage frequent-flyer executives to enrol early; anecdotal data from Delhi show e-Gate utilisation at only 38 % of installed capacity, largely due to low awareness.

Authorities say Phase 3 will extend eligibility to foreign business travellers and diplomats, subject to reciprocal arrangements. Discussions are underway with Japan and the UAE for data-exchange agreements that could enable mutual e-Gate access by late-2026.
