Saudi trims Umrah visa entry window to one month—UAE pilgrims urged to book sooner
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj & Umrah has cut the pre-entry validity of Umrah visas from three months to just one, effective the first week of November. The stay period inside the Kingdom remains unchanged at 90 days, but visas will now be automatically cancelled if the holder has not entered Saudi Arabia within 30 days of issuance.

The change comes as the ministry braces for a surge of pilgrims from cooler-weather markets, including the UAE, where demand spikes after school half-term. More than four million Umrah visas have already been issued since June—an all-time record—and officials say tightening the window will help spread arrivals more evenly, easing congestion in Mecca and Medina.

For travel agencies and corporate groups in the UAE that arrange incentive or spiritual tours, the shorter validity means payment and logistics must now be locked in within weeks, not months. UAE residents typically drive or fly to Jeddah on weekend itineraries; any delay in departure could now void the visa, requiring re-application and extra cost. Bus operators on the Dubai-Mecca corridor will need more agile scheduling to avoid half-empty coaches.

Overstayers are already tracked via the Kingdom’s biometrics-based exit system, but the ministry hopes the new rule will also combat black-market trading of unused visas. Pilgrims who miss the 30-day entry deadline will find their visas automatically invalidated in the electronic visa system (eVisa), preventing last-minute resale.

UAE residents planning Umrah during the upcoming National Day long weekend (1–4 December) should therefore apply no earlier than the first week of November to keep their visas active, and should double-check that hotel and transport vouchers match the new timelines. Integrated travel platforms such as Nusuk.sa have updated their date selectors to reflect the policy shift.
