Why Mexican Nationals Enjoy the UAE’s Longest 180-Day Multiple-Entry Visa
The UAE’s visa regime made headlines again on 29 October when officials confirmed that Mexican passport-holders continue to receive a 180-day, multiple-entry visit visa on arrival—double the period granted to citizens of the United States, EU Schengen states and most of Asia.

The privilege stems from a 2018 Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement that came into force in 2020, allowing Emiratis to enter Mexico for the same duration. Diplomats say the reciprocity reflects a fast-deepening economic partnership: two-way non-oil trade topped US $2.1 billion in 2024, while Emirates Airline’s Mexico City service links Dubai to nine onward Mexican destinations.

For Mexican corporates, the policy removes the administrative friction of frequent visa runs, allowing executives to base themselves in Dubai for extended project cycles. Tourism operators also report a steady rise in high-spend Mexican visitors combining Gulf stopovers with onward Asian itineraries.

Conversely, the news has intensified calls from other Latin American states for similar treatment. UAE policy advisers note that longer-stay visas are tied to demonstrable reciprocity—something only a handful of countries currently offer Emiratis.

Businesses should therefore expect the 180-day concession to remain unique for the foreseeable future. Travel managers dealing with mixed-nationality teams are advised to check stay-limits carefully; colleagues from neighbouring countries will still be restricted to 30- or 90-day entry stamps and may need pre-arranged extensions.
