Castilla y León ups Renfe Avant subsidy to €6.4 m, easing commuter costs
The regional government of Castilla y León signed a revised agreement with Renfe Viajeros on 27 October, boosting 2025 funding for discounted Avant high-speed passes by €1.95 million to a total of €6.42 million. The programme grants a 25 % fare rebate on multi-trip tickets, used chiefly by Madrid-Valladolid commuters, which accounted for 39 826 passes in H1.

Cheaper rail commutes support employers that base shared-service centres in Valladolid or Segovia while keeping senior staff resident in Madrid. The extra subsidy coincides with upcoming EES biometric checks at Barajas; encouraging rail over air for domestic hops could free airport capacity for non-EU queues.

Companies with intra-Spain assignment policies should ensure HR systems recognise Avant passes as a tax-deductible mobility benefit. Under Spain’s 2024 Sustainable Transport Act, employer-funded season tickets can be exempt from personal-income tax up to €1 500 per worker annually.

Digital issuance of the new discounted passes will start in December, with Renfe integrating them into its corporate-app dashboard, allowing mobility managers to track usage and CO₂ savings for ESG reporting.
