Lithuania schengen visa

Lithuania Schengen visa is a travel document issued to foreign nationals visiting Lithuania on a short visit. The visa is mostly issued to tourists, but holders are free to use it for any short-term purpose, such as business trips, family visits, or to attend any social event in the country.

This Lithuanian visa is not required for citizens of other Schengen States. If you are a citizen of any of the Schengen countries and you have a passport or ID card to prove your citizenship, you can enter Lithuania freely due to the borderless policy of the Schengen Area.

Furthermore, citizens of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan enjoy a visa-free status in Lithuania and other Schengen countries. Unless they intend to stay in the country for more than 90 days, they do not need to hold a Schengen visa.

If you are from a third-world country or a country that is not on the visa-free list, you need to apply for and obtain this Lithuania visa before boarding a flight to Lithuania.

Lithuania Schengen Visa Validity

A Lithuanian Schengen visa is valid for 180 days, and visitors with this travel document can stay in Lithuania for up to 90 days. Kindly note that this visa is not extendable unless under special circumstances. Furthermore, it is not a work visa, so holders are not allowed to engage in paid work during their time in the country. If you plan to work, get a work visa instead.

Lithuania In The Baltic Region

Lithuania is one of the Baltic States of Europe, which includes Latvia and a few other countries. The country is not as popular as some of its European counterparts, but it is indeed a gem in the region. With more than 90km of coastlines, there are seaside resorts, spa towns, and traditional markets. Lithuania joined the European Union in 2004 and the Schengen Area in 2007.

This move made it a signatory to the Schengen borderless policy for free entry and exit of Schengen citizens and visa holders. Also called the Republic of Lithuania, it is a high-income country with a GNI of $15,000 annually per capita. This makes it one of the richest countries in the EU despite its relatively small size.

Lithuania is peaceful, and its 2.8 million people enjoy a high standard of living. It is open to foreign tourists and professionals who wish to live and work there.

Who Needs A Schengen Visa?

This visa is for visitors who are not from Schengen or visa-free countries. If you are not from any visa-free country, you should apply for a Schengen visa. Your chances of getting the visa are high because Lithuania only rejects less than 2% of visa applications. If you have the required documents, the visa will be issued to you.

Lithuania Schengen Visa Application Fee

The visa application fee for a Schengen visa is standard for all countries in the Area. Children under the age of 6 are not charged a fee to process their application. Minors between the age of 6-11 are charged €40, while applicants 12 years and above must pay €80 for the visa.

How To Apply For A Schengen Visa – Which Documents Do I Need?

To apply for a Schengen visa, you will need the following

Application Form: You must complete a visa application form and sign it. Forms must be filled out correctly to avoid rejections.

Photos: Two recent passport photographs that meet Schengen requirements.

Passport: A valid passport not older than 10 years. It must have at least three months validity from the departure date and two blank pages minimum for visa stickers.

Itinerary: A round-trip ticket to and from Lithuania

Insurance: Travel medical insurance provides a minimum cover of €30,000 for medical emergencies during your stay in the country.

Cover letter: A signed cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip.

Additional documents may be required aside from these documents listed above. So before you book an appointment and appear before the visa officer, do well to organize all your documents and make photocopies of them.

Note that a Schengen visa is not a work or a long-term visa. This means you must not engage in any direct economic activity that will earn you income during your time in Lithuania or any Schengen country. If you intend to work or study, you should apply for a different long-term Schengen visa to suit your purpose.

Lithuanian immigration authorities maintain strict immigration rules alongside other Schengen countries. If caught violating the rules, you will be deported and may not be allowed back in the country for the foreseeable future. Endeavor to abide by the rules of your Lithuania Schengen visa.
