Peru At A Glance

Peru is a South American country with one of the richest biodiversity in the world and is a hub for conservationists and wildlife tourists. It is home to Machu Picchu, rated as one of the 7 wonders of the world, with dozens of parks. Peru also has rich wildlife boasting thousands of bird species, reptiles, mammals, and dolphins, to mention a few. So if you are drawn to wildlife and want to spend your time in a rich, natural habitat, Peru is the country to visit.

During the summer months, millions of visitors visit many the tourist sites to enjoy a nice time. However, if you are not a fan of the forest, you can visit any resort town by the sea to enjoy the calm and cool breeze.

The Peru Visa

The Peruvian government issues visas to citizens of foreign countries that are not on the visa waiver list. You should know that there is a visa waiver list for selected countries, so their citizens don’t need to obtain a valid visa to enter Peru. However, India is not on the list, but Indians qualify for a visa as long as they are eligible for one. Here are the visas Indians can apply for.

Tourism visa: A tourist visa is for Indian nationals who want to visit for sightseeing or to spend their holidays. Tourist visas allow a stay of 6 months plus three extra days.

Business Visa: Business Visa for Indians is for business-related purposes. Anyone with a business meeting or event in Peru will need this visa. Like the tourism visa, it is valid for 183 days.

Study Visa: This one is for Indian students who gain admission into a University in Peru. The visa is valid for as long as the course lasts. To apply for a study visa, the applicant must have secured admission ahead of time.

Work visa: A work visa allows Indians to work in India. This visa is valid for 2 years and above. To qualify for a work visa, you should first secure a job with a Peru employer.

Entry Permit

Indian passport holders who have active visas for Australia, the UK, the US, Canada, and EU/Schengen nations may enter the country even if they don’t have a visa and stay for up to 180 days within a one-year period. The visa must be used to enter the issuing country first before it can be used to enter Peru.

How to Apply for Peru Visa from India?

For now, the government of Peru has not made e-visas available to Indian applicants, but this is likely to change in the future. However, Indian citizens can still apply for a visa by visiting the Peru embassy in New Delhi. They must obtain a form, fill it and append their signature. They must also attach the required documents to the application form and submit it for processing. After submission, the Peruvian embassy will schedule an interview for them which they must attend, bringing along original copies of their documents for review.

Then about a week or more after the interview, they will be notified about the outcome of their application. If successful, applicants will be invited to come for their visas.
