Traveling To Denmark

Denmark is a Nordic country in Northern Europe consisting of Metropolitan or mainland Denmark, the island of Greenland, which is much larger than the mainland, and Faroe island, an autonomous archipelago country in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Denmark joined the Schengen Area in 2001 but has been a member of the European Union since 1973. Due to its Schengen membership, Danes can visit other Schengen countries while opening its borders to its neighbors. However, non-EU citizens not from visa-exempt countries need a visa to enter the country or any of its other territories.

How Many Countries Can You Visit With A Schengen Visa?

Holders of Danish Schengen visa issued by the Danish embassy can visit any of the other 26 Schengen countries in the area, including Bulgaria, Romania, and Cyprus. They can also visit the Micro States of Andorra, San Marino, The Vatican, and Monaco. The only country you can’t enter with a Schengen visa is The Republic of Ireland which has a different immigration policy not aligned with the rest of Europe.

Denmark Schengen Visa Validity

This visa is a short-term visit visa valid for 180 days, counting from the day it is issued. You can stay in one or more Schengen states for a period of 90 days. If you intend to visit any of the other nations in the region, the rule states that you must first visit the country that issued the visa first before traveling to any other country.

Denmark Schengen Visa Processing Time

After submitting your visa application form and documents, the process will take about 15 calendar days before the visa is released. This is because of the series of vetting your application will go through before it is approved. But note that the process may take up to 45 days in some cases if the embassy is handling a large amount of applications at the time. Visa applications spike during summer when many are keen to travel.

Aside from a large number of applications, here are some other reasons why your visa may take a long time to process.

Wrong Information: If you submit the wrong information, your application may be rejected by the embassy or put on hold until you can provide the correct information. This is why applicants are advised to take their time when filing the application form and crosscheck for errors before submitting the form.

Invalid Documents: Submitting an invalid documents or a set of expired documents is enough reason to reject your application. For instance, submitting an expired passport or a passport that will expire in less than three months from your planned departure date will lead to rejection.

Policy Changes: Suppose you submit your application at the time when the Danish government or European Union introduces a new policy for Schengen visas; there may be a slight delay in getting your visa approved. This rarely happens, but if it does, you may not get your visa for 15 days.

These are a few reasons why your visa application may take longer to process. Also note that even if you have the visa, the authority to allow you into Denmark rests with the immigration and border control agents, especially if you are discovered to have obtained the visa under a false pretext.
