Free import
• Personal belongings and ordinary, non-controlled goods in reasonable quantities for your own use.
• Per person per day, for own use: 19 cigarettes, or 1 cigar (up to 3 g), or 25 g of other tobacco products - no more than 25 g of tobacco products in total.
• Per person per day, for own use: 1 L of alcoholic drinks with more than 30% alcohol by volume.
• Per person per day, for own use: up to 1 kg each of items such as dairy products, bird eggs (not fresh), natural honey, fruit, mushrooms, tuber vegetables, live plants, bulbs, seeds, sugar cane, ice cream, and dog and cat food (5 kg in total), and up to 1 kg of each type of powdered milk or infant formula.
• Medicines for personal use: up to 90 days of treatment; medicines containing narcotic or psychotropic substances up to 30 days of treatment, with a medical document justifying their use.
• Goods that are not personal effects and are worth more than MOP 5,000 in total must be declared to customs.
Currency
• Cash (in any currency) and bearer negotiable instruments such as traveler's cheques, cheques, bills of exchange, money orders and promissory notes with a total value of MOP 120,000 or more (or the equivalent) must be declared on arrival: use the Red Channel and hand in a completed declaration form. An online e-declaration is available at eservice.customs.gov.mo/eDCBNI.
• Passengers in transit through Macau to another destination do not need to declare. Failure to declare is punishable by a fine of MOP 1,000 to MOP 500,000.
Prohibited
• E-cigarettes, including their components and devices, and tobacco products for oral use or inhalation - also in personal luggage. The fine is MOP 4,000 and the goods are seized.
• Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (except prescribed medicines within the limits above)
• Prohibited weapons
• Counterfeit and pirated goods
Restricted
• Firearms, ammunition, gas and pepper sprays, stun guns, knives, swords and other weapons, as well as fireworks and firecrackers, need a licence from the Public Security Police Force (CPSP).
• Live animals, including pets, birds and reptiles, need an import licence from the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) obtained in advance and are subject to health inspection; without it, entry is refused.
• Meat (fresh, chilled or cooked, including dried meat and sausages), fish (except ornamental fish), seafood and fresh eggs need an IAM import licence and health inspection. There is no personal allowance for meat, seafood, leafy vegetables or fresh eggs; undeclared items are confiscated and a fine may apply.
• Quantities of food, plants and powdered milk above the personal allowances need an IAM health inspection or licence (infant formula for babies under 1 year: licence from the Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau).
• Endangered species of animals and plants and their products (for example American ginseng, ivory, crocodile and python products, coral, seahorses, sturgeon and caviar, agarwood, orchids and dendrobium) need a CITES certificate and a licence from the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) in advance.
• Pharmaceutical products beyond personal use, chemicals, hazardous and radioactive substances need a licence in advance. Tobacco and alcohol above the allowances need a DSEDT licence.
• Radio transmitters and receivers, radar and navigation equipment on the import control list need a licence from Macao Post and Telecommunications (CTT).
• Electric bicycles and electric scooters (mopeds) need a licence from the Transport Bureau (DSAT); hoverboards and electric kick scooters can be brought in without a licence.
• Use the Red Channel if you carry goods above the personal allowances, controlled goods, goods for commercial use, or MOP 120,000 or more in cash and bearer negotiable instruments; otherwise use the Green Channel. Green Channel passengers may still be checked, and undeclared goods can be confiscated and lead to a fine or prosecution.
