Free import

• Used personal belongings you bring for your own use are duty-free.
• Besides personal belongings, you may bring new or used goods that are not for sale (clothing, shoes, food, toiletries, costume jewellery, household items, appliances and similar) worth up to USD 1,000 in total. Customs duty may be charged on them. Goods above this limit, or in quantities that look commercial, can be confiscated.
• Food, toiletries, medicines and medical supplies for personal or family use are duty-free with no value or weight limit when carried in your accompanied baggage. Pack them in bags separate from the rest of your luggage, and bring medicines in their original packaging. This is an exceptional measure in force since 1 February 2026 with no end date; it can be withdrawn with 30 days' notice.
• The same goods sent as unaccompanied baggage are duty-free up to USD 500 or 50 kg.
• Medicines and other prepared pharmaceutical products, wheelchairs, prostheses, and scientific, technical, art and literature books are also exempt from duty.
• Foreign visitors (tourists, journalists, athletes, artists, scientists) may bring professional equipment and other items for their stay as a temporary import, free of duty, provided they take them out again.
• All travelers arriving by air must complete the free D'Viajeros online form (dviajeros.mitrans.gob.cu), which can be filled in from 72 hours before arrival and replaces the paper customs declaration. Declare any goods, equipment and currency there and show the QR code on arrival.

Currency

• There is no limit on the amount of foreign currency you may bring in. Cash, cheques and other payment instruments worth more than USD 5,000 (or the equivalent in other currencies) must be declared to customs on arrival. Keep the declaration: you need it to take more than USD 5,000 out again.
• Cuban pesos (CUP): you may bring in up to CUP 5,000.
• The convertible peso (CUC) has been withdrawn from circulation; the Cuban peso (CUP) is the only national currency.

Prohibited

• Illegal drugs, psychotropic substances and precursor chemicals
• Explosives
• Blood products
• Obscene or pornographic literature, articles and objects, and material considered contrary to the general interests of the nation
• Air conditioners above 1 ton (12,000 BTU); electric cookers and hot plates (except induction models up to 1,500 W per burner); electric ovens (except microwave ovens up to 2,000 W); electric heating elements of any kind
• Light motor vehicles (cars, motorcycles and mopeds with combustion engines), and car and motorcycle engines and frames
• Live animals, except vaccinated dogs and cats (see below)
• Fresh, frozen, dried or salted meat, sausages and other meat products, and animal products of cattle, pigs, sheep, goats and other hoofed animals that may carry disease
• Unpasteurised milk and dairy products
• Fresh fruit and vegetables, plants and parts of plants, seeds, agricultural and forestry products, soil and organic matter
• Untreated leather and handicrafts made from raw animal or plant material, and biological products

Restricted

• Food of animal origin is admitted only when industrially processed and packaged: canned pork and poultry, canned beef only from countries free of mad cow disease (BSE), stock cubes, and UHT, condensed, evaporated or powdered milk and matured cheese in the original packaging of recognised brands. Canned vegetables and treated decorative items of animal origin are also allowed.
• Dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies and travel with an official veterinary health certificate from the country of origin. They are checked by the border veterinary service on arrival.
• Firearms and ammunition need prior authorisation from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT).
• Satellite phones, satellite TV receivers, amateur radio equipment, walkie-talkies, Wi-Fi routers and other radio transmitters, as well as drones, need a technical import authorisation from the Ministry of Communications (MINCOM). Equipment without it is held by customs. Ordinary (non-satellite) mobile phones, laptops, tablets and USB memory sticks do not need an authorisation.
• Medicines containing controlled narcotic or psychotropic substances: some may be carried without documents (up to 1 or 3 months of treatment), others need an official medical certificate in Spanish or English (issued within the last 3 months) and are limited to 30 days of treatment. Tell customs on arrival that you carry them.
• Works of art and other cultural goods brought into Cuba need an import certificate from the National Council of Cultural Heritage; apply at least 10 working days before arrival.
