Free import
• Personal belongings carried by travelers. Anything obtained abroad that is not exempt from duty must be declared to customs on arrival, and customs officers may examine your baggage.
• Liberian citizens returning to live in Liberia after at least 2 years abroad (1 year for students) may apply to the Liberia Revenue Authority for a duty waiver on household and personal effects within 1 year of their permanent return. The waiver does not cover the 1.5% customs user fee and, for goods from outside ECOWAS, the 0.5% ECOWAS Trade Levy.
Currency
• There is no limit on the amount of foreign currency you may bring in, but cash (banknotes and coins) over USD 10,000 or the equivalent in other currencies must be declared to the Central Bank of Liberia at the port of entry.

• Plants, plant products, live animals, animal products and food need an import permit from the Plant and Animal Quarantine Services of the Ministry of Agriculture, together with a phytosanitary certificate (plants) or zoo-sanitary (veterinary health) certificate (animals) from the country of origin. This also applies to pets.
• Endangered species of animals and plants and products made from them (CITES) need a permit from the Forestry Development Authority (wildlife) or the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (marine species).
• Goods may be restricted for reasons of public morality, public security, health, protection of the environment, national treasures and intellectual property rights.
