Free import
• The following goods may be brought in duty-free by travelers arriving from abroad, including from Denmark and the Faroe Islands. Tobacco, spirits, wine and beer are duty-free only for travelers aged 18 or older.
• 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 cigarillos or 250 g of smoking tobacco or 250 g of chewing tobacco or snuff.
• 200 cigarette papers or cigarette tubes.
• 1 L of spirits over 22% alcohol or 2.25 L of fortified wine (15-22% alcohol).
• 2.25 L of table wine (under 15% alcohol) and 2 L of beer.
• 2 L of soft drinks or caffeinated drinks (150 mg of caffeine per liter or more) and 1 L of drinking water.
• 4 kg of chocolate and sweets in total, and 5 kg of lamb and mutton in total.
• The goods must be carried on your person or in your personal luggage so that they can be shown to customs. They may also be bought at licensed duty-free shops in Greenland airports on arrival.
Currency
• The currency is the Danish krone (DKK).
• Cash worth more than DKK 50,000 found during customs checks can be withheld by the Tax Agency if it is suspected to come from, or to be intended for, a criminal offence.

• Dogs of any breed (other than Greenlandic sled dogs) in the sled dog district: the west coast north of 66°N and the entire east coast down to Cape Farewell. Working dogs and assistance dogs for disabled people need a permit from the Government of Greenland.
Restricted
• Beer, wine and spirits above the duty-free allowance may only be brought in with a permit from the Greenland Tax Agency. Bringing in more than the allowances can lead to a fine and confiscation of the goods.
• Passengers on foreign cruise ships may bring ashore only tobacco, chocolate and sweets for their own use, unless they end their cruise and fly home from Greenland.
• Firearms: manually repeating firearms and knives need no import permit, but the Greenland Police can issue a free import and export declaration, which many countries, including Denmark, require. Fully and semi-automatic firearms, handguns and ammunition need a police permit. An import declaration does not give the right to hunt.
• Bringing or using any firearm, including a flare gun, in the Northeast Greenland National Park needs a separate permit from the Greenland Police (processing takes 1 to 3 weeks).
• Dogs and cats (outside the sled dog district) need a permit from the Greenland Representation in Denmark and a written permit from the municipality. Requirements include a microchip, rabies vaccination given at least 30 days and no more than 12 months before entry, distemper and parvovirus vaccination for dogs, a veterinary health certificate issued no more than 14 days before departure and tapeworm treatment within 14 days of departure. Municipalities may add conditions, such as spaying of female animals.

Expeditions and organized travel on the Greenland Ice Sheet (more than 1 km from the ice edge, or for more than 24 hours near it) and longer land stays in some remote areas need an expedition permit from the Greenland Ministry of Nature and Environment. Apply at least 12 weeks before the start; a fee applies. Cruise and tour organizers usually arrange the permits.
