Clock Change Complicates 26 October Flight Banks as Austria Reverts to Standard Time

Clock Change Complicates 26 October Flight Banks as Austria Reverts to Standard Time
Just hours after the winter timetable took effect, Austria ended Daylight Saving Time at 03:00 local on 26 October, shifting clocks back to 02:00. The one-hour rollback forced airlines and rail operators to re-sequence overnight operations. Vienna Airport re-timed 27 departures and 19 arrivals; Austrian Airlines’ long-haul wave was held on remote stands to avoid gate conflicts.

While most carriers build DST adjustments into their global schedules, irregularities still occur. Two intra-EU flights departed 15 minutes late after crew rosters did not reflect the new time stamp, according to airport sources. ÖBB’s Nightjet services inserted programmed halts to maintain arrival slots in Germany, and truckers crossing the Slovak border reported confusion over tachograph resets.

Business-traveller impact was limited, but mobility managers are reminded to double-check meeting calendars generated in different time zones. The European Commission’s stalled plan to abolish seasonal clock changes means operators must likely repeat the exercise in March 2026.
