Polish construction giant Unibep S.A. signed a turnkey contract on 22 October 2025 to refurbish and expand the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint, the busiest road crossing between Poland and Ukraine. The project is part of Warsaw’s wider strategy to upgrade frontier infrastructure ahead of the EES biometric rollout that begins this month and to boost capacity for humanitarian and commercial traffic. Once completed—target date Q2 2027—the remodelled terminal should increase hourly throughput by 40 % for passenger vehicles and by 60 % for trucks, according to preliminary feasibility studies.
For mobility teams relocating staff or moving high-value goods across the eastern border, the upgrade promises shorter dwell times and greater predictability, especially once integrated with Poland’s SENT cargo-tracking platform.
