Etihad Cargo opens twice-weekly Abu Dhabi–East Midlands freighter link
Etihad Cargo launched a new Boeing 777 F service between Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport and the UK’s East Midlands Airport (EMA) on 27 October, providing the UAE’s manufacturing exporters with overnight access to Britain’s largest express-freight hub. The route operates every Monday and Thursday, timed to connect with Etihad’s Asian and African passenger banks.

For global-mobility managers, the freighter is more than a logistics story. Many companies relocate engineers and project cargo simultaneously; having a direct cargo flight means work-permit holders can arrive on the passenger network while specialised equipment follows within 24 hours, reducing project lead times. EMA’s proximity to Birmingham and Manchester also offers an alternative to congested Heathrow for automotive and aerospace firms moving talent and tools between the UAE and the UK’s Midlands corridor.

Stanislas Brun, Etihad Cargo’s Chief Cargo Officer, said the route supports ‘door-to-door’ time-definite delivery into northern England and Scotland, where e-commerce demand from Gulf brands is growing rapidly. EMA reported a 17 percent year-on-year rise in cargo throughput this summer and has expanded apron space for wide-body freighters.

Relocation vendors note that the flight could simplify pets-relocation procedures as Emirates SkyCargo currently routs most animal shipments via London. Etihad plans to add a live-animals station at EMA in early 2026, subject to UK regulatory approvals.
