Free import
• Personal belongings and luggage for your own use, subject to customs inspection.
• You must declare to customs any goods you carry that may be prohibited or subject to duty or tax.
Currency
• Foreign currency in cash worth more than USD 30,000 (or the equivalent in other currencies) must be declared to customs on arrival on the official currency disclosure form.
• Foreign currency may also be brought in as cheques, traveller's cheques, letters of credit, transfers, shares, bonds or other securities.
• Each traveler may bring in up to LYD 1,000 in Libyan dinar cash for travel expenses. This amount may not be exchanged into foreign currency.
• Non-residents must keep the completed disclosure form during their stay and hand it to customs when leaving Libya.
• Foreign currency may be exchanged only at banks and licensed exchange offices. Carrying undeclared cash above the limit is treated as smuggling: the money can be confiscated, and fines or imprisonment can follow.

• Illegal drugs
• Weapons
• Pornographic material
• Religious material

• Goods whose import is restricted by Libyan law may be brought in only if all required conditions and permits are met. Check with the Libyan Customs Authority before you travel with anything other than personal belongings.
