• Visitors staying temporarily may bring in items for their own personal use free of duties and taxes.

Currency
• Cash and bearer negotiable instruments (such as bearer cheques) worth DJF 1,000,000 (about USD 5,600) or more, in Djibouti francs or foreign currency, must be declared in writing to customs on arrival, using the official declaration form.
• Customs may hold undeclared or falsely declared cash for up to 30 working days (extendable to 90 days), and fines or other penalties apply.

• Illegal drugs, narcotics and psychotropic substances
• Counterfeit goods
• Endangered species of animals and plants and products made from them (CITES)
• Explosives
• Corrosive or toxic gases, toxic and infectious substances, and radioactive material
• Pornographic material
• Any product that may harm public health, public safety or state security
Restricted
• Weapons and ammunition need an authorization from the competent Djiboutian authorities and must be declared to customs.
• Radio transmitters and transceivers need an authorization from the Ministry of Communication (Posts and Telecommunications).
• Food that is not for personal use needs prior approval from the national food safety laboratory (LANAA).
• Precious items (rough diamonds, gold, silver) must travel with a valid certificate and invoice under the Kimberley Process, in a tamper-proof container.
• Pets must travel with their health record (vaccination booklet) and a rabies vaccination certificate.
