Free import
• Goods bought abroad or received as gifts, carried in your baggage for personal use, up to a total value of XPF 30,000 per traveler aged 18 or older, or XPF 15,000 per traveler under 18.
• For travelers aged 18 or older: 400 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 500 g of smoking tobacco, plus 4 tobacco rolls (carottes de tabac).
• For travelers aged 18 or older: 2 L of alcoholic drinks.
• 50 g of perfume and 0.25 L of eau de toilette.
• Travelers under 18 may not bring in tobacco or alcohol duty-free.
• Goods above these allowances must be declared to customs on arrival. Duties and taxes are charged on the price shown on the purchase invoice, so keep your receipts.
• Duty-free and tax-free purchases, including goods bought in mainland France with a tax refund form, must also be declared on arrival.
Currency
• The local currency is the CFP franc (XPF).
• Cash, traveler's cheques, gold coins, securities and other bearer instruments worth EUR 10,000 (XPF 1,193,317) or more in total, or the equivalent in other currencies, must be declared to customs when you arrive from a foreign country, such as Fiji. The declaration is not required when you arrive from mainland France, a French overseas department, New Caledonia or French Polynesia.
• Failure to declare can lead to a fine of up to 50% of the amount, and customs can hold the cash.

Restricted
• Wallis and Futuna is free of many plant and animal pests and diseases. All products of animal or plant origin, including food, shells and shell necklaces, tapa cloth, mats and carvings, must be declared on arrival at Wallis-Hihifo airport by ticking "Yes" on the health declaration form handed out on the plane. Undeclared products are seized and destroyed, and penalties may apply.
• Food of animal origin is allowed for personal consumption up to 5 kg per person if it is labelled and you have the receipt, and if it has been heat-treated and/or comes from New Caledonia, New Zealand, Australia or the EU.
• Plants and plant products need an import permit from the veterinary, food and phytosanitary inspection service (SIVAP) and a phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin. Dried and processed plant items (such as tapa cloth and mats) and cooked, or peeled and frozen, taro, yams, kape and breadfruit for personal use are allowed if declared.
• Some animal species used in ornaments, such as giant clams, turtles and coral, are protected under CITES (the Washington Convention).
• Pets and other live animals must first spend 10 days in the animal quarantine station in New Caledonia (+687 41 25 36). After quarantine they need an import permit from the Wallis and Futuna SIVAP and a health certificate countersigned by an official veterinarian in New Caledonia.
• Weapons and ammunition can be imported only with an authorization from the Administration supérieure (Prefecture) of Wallis and Futuna: +681 72 27 27 (Wallis) or +681 72 38 00 (Futuna).
